Coffee

Coffee roasts are perfect for all brewing methods where coffee is brewed or filtered without pressure. Unlike espresso, the focus here is not on concentrated extraction, but on a clear, balanced and aromatic coffee with subtle nuances. Roasted coffee beans are ideal if you like to drink larger cups and value a nuanced flavour profile.

The classic filter coffee machine is particularly popular. It is straightforward, reliable and perfect for everyday use. Freshly ground coffee beans produce an aromatic coffee that can taste pleasantly mild, sweet or fruity. You have even more control with a manual filter. Here, you determine the grind size, water quantity, temperature and brewing time yourself, and can bring out the flavours of your coffee roast with particular precision.

The French press is also a good choice if you like coffee with more body and a stronger mouthfeel. The direct contact between water and ground coffee creates a fuller flavour. The Chemex, on the other hand, produces a very clear, elegant coffee with delicate aromas. Whether it’s a filter coffee machine, a manual filter, a French press or a Chemex: coffee roasts are the perfect foundation for mindful coffee enjoyment without the pressure.

What are the differences & What suits you best?

Roast Level Explained: Coffee vs. Espresso

Coffee roasts primarily differ from espresso roasts in their roast level and desired flavor profile. While espresso beans are usually roasted longer and more developed to deliver a lot of body, crema, and sweetness during the short, high-pressure brewing process, coffee roasts are often roasted light to medium. This preserves fine acids, fruity notes, floral aromas, and regional flavor profiles better.

A good filter coffee should not taste bitter or heavy, but rather clear, aromatic, and balanced. Therefore, coffee roasts often prioritize the transparency of the bean. Origin, varietal, processing, and growing altitude can be perceived more clearly than with darker espresso roasts. This makes coffee beans for filter coffee particularly exciting if you want to discover different flavor profiles.

Blends can also be very suitable for coffee. They combine different beans or origins to create a well-rounded, harmonious result. A coffee blend can, for example, combine sweetness, mild acidity, and nutty notes. Single Origin coffees, on the other hand, often show a clearer origin profile and bring typical aromas of a country, region, or farm to the cup. Compared to espresso roasts, coffee roasts are usually finer, clearer, and less roast-heavy.

Perfect Preparation with the Filter Coffee Machine

With a drip coffee maker, you can easily brew aromatic coffee – especially if the grind, coffee quantity, and water quality are right.

For drip coffee, the grind should be medium: finer than for a French press, but coarser than for espresso. If the coffee is ground too finely, the water flows through too slowly, and the taste can become bitter or dry. If the grind is too coarse, the water flows through too quickly, and the coffee tastes weak or sour.

A good starting point is a brew ratio of about 1:16. This means: for every 1 gram of coffee, use 16 grams of water. So, for one liter of water, you would use approximately 60 to 65 grams of freshly ground coffee. If you prefer your coffee stronger, you can use a bit more ground coffee. For a milder cup, slightly reduce the amount.
It's important to use the freshest possible coffee beans and grind them just before brewing. Insert the paper filter, if possible, quickly rinse it with hot water, and then evenly add the ground coffee.

After brewing, you should not leave the coffee on the warming plate for too long to prevent it from becoming bitter.

The perfect coffee for every taste

What makes our Kaffanero coffees special

Kaffanero coffee stands for carefully selected coffee beans, gentle roasting, and authentic flavor instead of industrial mass production. The difference begins with the green coffee: the beans are meticulously selected, sometimes directly traded, and developed specifically for their intended preparation.

This results in coffee roasts that consistently impress whether brewed in a filter coffee machine, with a hand filter, French Press, or Chemex.
Instead of roasting the beans very quickly and at high temperatures, Kaffanero focuses on gentle roasting and optimal development. This creates clarity, sweetness, balance, and a harmonious aroma profile, without the coffee tasting burnt, flat, or unpleasantly bitter.

Each roast aims to bring out the best in the bean. Single Origin coffee roasts are particularly exciting. They showcase typical regional flavor profiles and make the origin, variety, and processing tangible – from chocolatey-nutty to fruity-floral. At the same time, Kaffanero provides tailored advice. Whether you're looking for mild filter coffee, stronger cups, or special single origin coffees: together, you'll find the coffee that suits you, your brewing method, and your taste preferences.
